Casio PX 330 Piano Left ImgI was looking for a digital keyboard to complement my Roland Juno Stage keyboard. The Stage is a great live performance keyboard, but lacks a full keyboard, and doesn’t replicate very well the action and weight of an acoustic piano keyboard.

I researched a number of digital pianos before coming across several very positive reviews of the Casio PX 330 piano. In fact, everything I read was so positive that I decided to get my hands on one so that I could try and find out what the rave was about. I have had the 330 several days and I love it.

Solid Construction

The Casio PX 330 is lightweight, but very solidly constructed. The keyboard itself, in my humble opinion, replicates the touch and sensitivity of an acoustic piano quite well. There are a variety of acoustic piano patches, which sound very, very good, even with the built in speakers.

Superb Speakers
Just a word of advice when you are shopping for any digital piano: I have read some reviews which mention the speakers of digital keyboards in general and I have realized that so few people actually understand the purpose of a digital piano. It is not to power speakers but rather to generate the high quality of sound to be played by speakers. In other words, speakers are a whole other instrument if you will.

Invariably when you connect most digital pianos to a quality amplifier and to great speakers, the sound will be superb. Please don’t ever use keyboards speakers as a determining factor in purchasing any digital piano unless that’s your only option to hear what you play.

That said, you will not be disappointed by what you hear from the speakers of the Casio PX 330 piano. They sound great and you can also connect it to an amp or PA system, or use headphones and the sound is even better especially when practicing or writing a piece.

Bottom line: I highly recommend this keyboard, especially if you are looking for an economical and quality substitute for an acoustic piano.

Truly Expressive Touch

The Casio PX 330 has finally achieved the goal of emulating the feel of an acoustic piano in a package as small at this one and at the current price point. It features a new Tri-Sensor 88-note scaled hammer action keyboard. This is the kind of superior engineering you can enjoy from Casio and has resulted in an authentic piano touch that captures every detail and nuance of your performance.

Keyboards that have what is called ‘weighted key action’, typically costs upwards of $2000. This keyboard has a natural keyboard feel to it when playing and I was happily surprised. It is a fairly light unit, considering all of the features. I bought a gig bag for it and carry it to gigs all of the time.

What you will get for your money with this piano, is a fantastic digital piano for the price. It has better touch response than the majority of digital pianos of similar price which I tried.

The main samples on this piano are excellent. Casio has really come a long way with the Privia line and the modern grand piano voice (the default) sounds brilliant across the full range of the instrument. The less reverb’ed classic piano also sounds good.

Quality Sound:

If you have a lot of experience with grand pianos, then you know what a piano sounds like, and you will appreciate the sound of the Casio Privia PX-130 digital piano.

I am sure that the high-end pianos that cost three or four times more may sound a bit better but I’m sure that this keyboard can go toe-to-toe with some of them, especially when it is hooked up to a sound amplification system.

Just as my fingers are easily convinced they are playing an acoustic piano, my ears are equally convinced. If you are thinking about buying an acoustic piano for your home, do it only for the value of a classic piece of furniture, not for the sound.

This casio sounds so much better than 90% of the pianos I’ve played in the homes of people I have visited. This is not an understatement. Why? Because most people do not get their pianos tuned because it costs money and its difficult to find experienced piano tuners who know how to properly tune an acoustic piano.

The speakers are more than sufficient for most common uses. High notes sound like they originate from the right of center while the opposite is true for low notes, just like you would expect from an acoustic piano. Such full and realistic sound from such a compact package is shocking. You will not be disappointed.

Value:

I love the classic, uncluttered look of the Casio PX 130. It has minimal buttons and lights. It performs pretty well for the price range.

The keyboard is well integrated into the stand and I’m pleased with the look of it in our living room. The last thing I would have wanted is a monstrosity in the house.

The key action is beautiful and piano-like. Sounds are great too. The exterior is two tone, grey and black. The exterior is nice, but remember it is not a work of art.

The performance has been solid. My young children really like it and it preserves our sanity when they use headphones.

I had some professional musician friends perform a concerto for violin and piano. The piano sounded great, and well modulated, but the volume couldn’t quite keep up with the unamplified violin.

I recommend an external speaker or some sort of amplification especially if you plan to perform in gigs with large halls. Still, I think it performed pretty well in a pinch. We felt so lucky that they could spontaneously perform for us. If we didn’t have this little unit, then it would have been a violin solo.

The classic and modern piano sounds are pretty true, and the rest of the sounds are also quite good. The sound is even better when you hook it up to an amplification system.

I like the metronome feature that comes with the piano and I have found the pre-programmed songs that match the song book that comes with the piano to be useful as they are correct technically and I have found this to be helpful when learning a new song.

For the money, this is a nice keyboard and I found it to be better than I expected. It will do just fine as it does a good job of accurately replicating an acoustic piano sound. If you travel with it a lot, it is quite portable and light. I recommend that you get a keyboard bag for an 88 key digital piano from Amazon.

I live in an apartment and a traditional upright piano was simply not an option for me due to neighbors. I did not want to be the recipient of noise complaints.

I chose the Casio PX 130 because it was affordable and had great features and the other keyboard I liked was twice as much money for similar features.

If you are going to get this, I also recommend that you get the wooden stand for this piano (you can get it on sale through this link only for a 41% discount with FREE super saver shipping) as it really looks nice and is very space efficient.

If you do not plan to move the keyboard from place to place a lot then you don’t have to worry about removing a few screws from the stand to move it.

I would also recommend buying a keyboard cover to keep the dust off the keys.

If you are searching for a practice instrument or if you are getting into or back into playing piano, this fulfills its job. The keys are weighted, however it is not a replica of an acoustic piano in my opinion, the keys feel a little softer, have a bit of a spring-back on faster passages, and I can’t really feel any gradation from heavy to light keys.

The classic and modern piano sounds are pretty true, and the rest of the sounds are also quite good. The sound is even better when you hook it up to an amplification system.

The Casio CDP-100 Keyboard is a great for any piano student who wants a quality digital piano to practice on with great sound.

I am a music student who was in a situation where I needed to buy my own digital piano so that I could practice more at home.

I needed something which would:

If you are one of those folks that is interested in learning how to play the piano then one of the most challenging tasks that beginners face is trying to choose a good digital piano. In this post, you will learn some simple but easy things to think about and decide upon. It will help you to make a quick choice.

So the first question you need to ask yourself is what level of a pianist are you? This will help determine whether a digital piano is better or an acoustic piano. Usually, most beginners go with a digital piano because it has a wide range of options to choose from that help you play the kind of music you enjoy.

Being able to practice the piano by playing the type or genre of music you enjoy will help you to learn faster because you will have more interest, enthusiasm and have more fun learning.

Whether you choose an acoustic piano or a digital piano, you will find pros and cons of both. Cost is only one factor to consider. And in many cases it should be the last factor to consider.

Another question to ask is whether you want to start off with a full size keyboard? Or may be a 61-key or 76-key digital piano will do. There are all sorts of options for you to choose from and you will discover this as you search for your instrument or even if you are just adding a new instrument to your collection.

There are three main types of pianos you will find for the beginner pianist. They will range from electric keyboards, to digital pianos and finally acoustic pianos.

There are some additonal important points to consider before you make your choice.

What type of music do you want to play? Do you like dance, techno, classical, reggae?

Once you know what you like to listen to, then you can also ask yourself, who is your favorite musician? If you focus on this, you can actually do a little bit of reasearch online and find out what instruments they use to produce their music and that can help you narrow down to what kind of piano to choose. You may even have seen a music video of their performance and sometimes you can tell what type of piano they are playing.

Now if you are into the original authentic classical piano tunes like Mozart or Beethoven, then the acoustic piano is a good choice for you. For most other types of music (or tunes as they call them these days), then a digital piano like the Casio CDP 100 does pretty well. It is also a fun instrument to play.

Some other considerations are whether you can afford to buy one new or second-hand? This will obviously affect your budget. For digital pianos, I recommend that you get it new.

Once you have decided that, then if you want to buy new you can visit a local retailer although unless they are a really big store, they will not have the variety you need to see and try out. I personally recommend going online and trying a reputable site Amazon.

On the other hand if you plan to buy a used piano, then you can look around classifieds to buy from a real person after testing it out of course to make sure that everything works. You can also look around any music schools in your area as they sometimes get new pianos every year to replace the older ones which still work. You may be able to get a good price on those.

I am someone who’s used to acoustic pianos and so using this piano, I quickly noticed that the keyboard itself is very slim and the piano is not heavy… it’s easy to carry around.

After trying out the Casio CDP-100 digital piano, I believe it will give you a satisfying experience especially with the use of the naturally scaled hammer action and 88-key keyboard. The sound quality is exceptional for a digital piano of this size and price.

One of the key things that I loved about it was the fact that it is easily portable, small in size and light, but also allows you to produce decent quality sounding music.
